There are many choirs – but V.O.I.C.E is unique in every aspect. What does make us so special? As V.O.I.C.E, we leave the conventional path of a simple choir and tread innovative paths. We want to create something new musically by creating a modern choral sound, writing or commissioning original arrangements, collaborating with other inspiring musicians and songwriters and bringing the choral experience into the 21st century music world. Because that’s how choir should be: contemporary, versatile and innovative!

And in addition to all the musical ambitions, the community (= our “V.O.I.C.E Family”) is very important to us! V.O.I.C.E is made up of many different voices who all share a passion for singing together: from experienced singers to enthusiastic newcomers. As V.O.I.C.E, we reflect the diversity of our society and every singing enthusiast finds a platform here where personal, artistic and musical development is emphasised. For many members, V.O.I.C.E feels like a second family – one of the best possible compliments for us!

*Why does V.O.I.C.E have a (comparatively high) membership fee?
V.O.I.C.E was founded in 2019 by two friends who wanted to create their dream of a modern pop & jazz choir in Vienna and is entirely self-financed (V.O.I.C.E is therefore not part of a larger organisation like many other choirs in Austria and – unfortunately – is not state-funded). In addition, V.O.I.C.E offers all its singers a huge service to accompany their weekly choir singing: Audio files of all voices to make learning the songs easier, a terrific choir management team, specially written new and up-to-date arrangements & songs, unforgettable concert experiences on large stages with professional lighting & sound technology, high-end video & sound productions, regular excursions & community events, discounted access to singing lessons and academy courses, and much more.

We at V.O.I.C.E are also in favour of paying musicians fairly and appropriately – from choirmasters to arrangers & songwriters, band & beatboxers to sound engineers. With V.O.I.C.E, we want to create a place where artists and musicians are paid fairly and where there is no “but you’re happy to do it” mentality. The average wages in the Austrian music industry are downright sad in international comparison (with a few exceptions for those who have “made it”). We don’t want to go down this path and are setting an example within our means: “Art is work!”

But what is important to us is that if someone wants to sing with us but perhaps can’t afford it, it should never be because of money. All it takes is an email – and we’ll find a solution! Because anyone who wants to sing should have the opportunity to do so! 🙂
